Strategic co-operation
Researching and developing new technologies together
The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY) have agreed on a strategic co-operation to jointly promote innovation and research.

The three central aspects of this co-operation are:
- Bundling expertise and infrastructures: The close co-operation is intended to combine the respective strengths and resources of the partners in order to offer added value to both research and industry.
- Use of DESY analytics for industrial issues: DESY's highly developed analytics, in particular the X-ray radiation source PETRA III and in future PETRA IV, will be increasingly utilised for application-oriented research projects and industrial applications.
- Increased efficiency and shorter innovation cycles: The collaboration aims to increase efficiency in the research landscape and shorten innovation cycles by pooling expertise and sharing infrastructures.
PETRA IV, as the world's leading synchrotron radiation source, will play a central role in this partnership. It enables high-precision analyses at the nano level and opens up new possibilities in areas such as materials science, energy research and medicine. By utilising PETRA IV, industrial partners can benefit from advanced analytical methods to develop innovative products and technologies.
Overall, this strategic co-operation is intended to strengthen the technological performance and competitiveness of research and industry in Germany.
