Beate Heinemann - the new number one at DESY
In April 2025, the physics professor will take over the chair of the DESY Directorate, of which she is currently head of the particle physics research department. Beate Heinemann will follow Helmut Dosch, who headed the centre for 16 years. She is the first woman to head the research centre.
More than 300 guests in the lecture hall and hundreds more in Zoom welcomed Beate Heinemann and bid farewell to Helmut Dosch.
Great appreciation and great expectations. This is how to sum up the atmospheric handover event. In their welcoming speeches, Katharina Fegebank, Deputy Mayor and Senator for Science, Research, Equality and District Affairs in Hamburg, and Manja Schüle, Minister for Science, Research and Culture of the State of Brandenburg, emphasised the outstanding achievements of outgoing Chairman Helmut Dosch for Hamburg and the Zeuthen site in Brandenburg. At the same time, both emphasised how much they were looking forward to working with Beate Heinemann. The politicians agreed that Beate Heinemann's international experience and expertise will further strengthen Germany's position in the global research landscape, especially through projects such as PETRA IV, which contribute to the excellence of Germany as a research location.
Several former members of the new Chair and the outgoing Director attended the event as guests of honour.
